I Imagine Burlington
During my holidays this summer, I re-read a favourite book of mine – 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. Two of Covey’s ‘habits’ really resonated for me at this time.
The first relates to communication. Covey reminds us that only by truly listening to understand can we have an open-minded approach to understanding the issues and then create an atmosphere of caring and positive problem solving.
The second is about synergy – the habit of creative cooperation – teamwork, open-mindedness and the adventure of finding new solutions to old problems. This is a process where people bring all their personal experience and expertise to the table to produce far better results than could be found individually.
As I review Stephen Covey’s teachings I wanted to take the opportunity to connect with residents and once again ask for your assistance in shaping the future of our City together. I have done this during my term through Inspire Burlington and early on, in the I imagine initiative.
I started a conversation through my website, inviting residents to imagine Burlington their way. I received many interesting responses. Here are what some of you were Imagining in 2011:
